Jubilation at Pride of Huddersfield awards

Tribute to Obe as theatres win Examiner's Friends of the Year trophy (on behalf of the whole Trust)

Our theatres team at HRI paid tribute to colleague Obe Morake after clinching one of the top trophies of the night at the Examiner's Pride of Huddersfield awards.     They collected the "Friend of the Year" honour, in recognition of the huge support and trustwide fund-raising drive for Obe who passed away from pancreatic cancer in January aged just 35.

Pioneering safe discharges from the Acute Care Therapy Team

In February, therapists from the inpatient medicine and elderly team carried out a two- month pilot project in A&E, MAU & SSU.     A new model of working, which has already been successfully implemented in the same area at Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, was introduced.

2016/2017 Annual Fire Training - book your spaces now!

This year's mandatory fire training programme starts next week - with wards taking priority in the first instance. To make sure colleagues know exactly what should happen in the event of a fire, and to make it as realistic as possible, for wards the training will take place in a simulated mock ward area.  read more

Breastfeeding mums welcomed throughout all areas of the Trust.

As a UNICEF /WHO Baby Friendly accredited service the Trust is required to protect and support breastfeeding in all areas of the service.     Women should never be made to feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding in public. In fact, the Equality Act 2010 has made it illegal for anyone to ask a breastfeeding woman to leave a public place.  read more

ABC on vitamin D. New drive in schools for children and parents

Our health visitor, Lisa Delaney, has been out promoting Vitamin D supplementation to children and their parents at Beechill School in Halifax.     Karen Dawson, our Foundation stage learning mentor, has previously introduced a course at the school which involves a two year funding scheme ‘all about me’ attended by pupils.  read more

Emergency Nurse Practitioners training day

   On the 20th May the first in a series of training days for our Emergency department Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) took place. The ENP service is a dedicated team dealing with patients with minor injuries such as Fractures, sprains, wounds, burns, eye and ear problems etc.  read more

Huddersfield's Syngenta annual safety siren test - Monday 6 June

Syngenta is located along Leeds Road, Huddersfield. As a large chemical factory they are regulated under legislation called Control Of Major Accident Hazards. They test their warning sirens annually and this year's test takes place on Monday 6 June between 10am and midday.  read more

"Anna" interactive Forum Theatre piece for learning-disabled adults and health professionals

   'Anna' is an interactive Forum Theatre piece coming to the West Yorkshire Playhouse on June 10th, that explores a series of true-life scenarios that may be experienced by learning disabled people when they consider being, or become, a parent.  read more
