This is our Jean Robinson back in 1986 training to be a nurse. Thirty years on, to celebrate International Nurses' Day, she recalls those early days in an amazing profession.

Today it's International 'Nurses’ Day. It happens every year on 12 May - the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth - to celebrate the profession and how nurses make such a difference every day.

   Our Deputy director of nursing and transformation Jackie Murphy and paediatrician Dr Alistair Morris told a packed meeting the key to successful Electronic Patient Record (EPR) launch is in the preparation.     There was a huge turnout of colleagues from all areas in the session in the Learning Centre at HRI, with around 150 people attending.

HRI-born "Hello my name is..." campaigner Dr Kate Granger - hailed at BMJ awards

Dr Kate Granger, the founder of the successful “Hello, my name is” campaign, won a Special Achievement Award at The BMJ Awards 2016 in London last week.     Kate,  whose experiences as a patient with cancer led to the campaign, was the first recipient of this one-off award.  read more

Julie Hoole's big break.. and it could be yours too!

The Trust’s lead cancer nurse, Julie Hoole, has been successful in winning an internship with the National Institute for Health Research, Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care Yorkshire and Humber (NIHR-CLAHRC YH).  read more

   Colleagues from across the Trust were out in force supporting World Hand Hygiene Day last week at HRI.     The focus this year is "See what's on your hands" with the message that hand hygiene supports safe surgical care and to practice hand hygiene for surgical patients from admission to discharge.  read more

RCTP - CRH staff session next week and new animated film to get the message across

Work at CRH and want to know more about the proposed changes to services? Then come along next Tuesday to CRH to find out more.     Earlier this month more than 40 colleagues attended the session at HRI. As well as key CHFT colleagues, the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) who are running the consultation will also attend to hear your views and take questions.  read more

Our Healthcare assistant, Bridget Rice, has received some great feedback for her work at the Macmillan unit this week:     "Today I attended CRH at approx 14:30 with my mum and dad. My mum had an appointment at the eye clinic for scan results and my dad had an appointment at the Macmillan unit as he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.  read more

A few weeks back, we asked you to donate any unwanted kit to the Sim suite, and it was a great success!    Clinical Skills & Simulation Technician, Caren Reid, told us that they had received a few boxes in the post and have had a lot of calls and emails offering her out of date stock.  read more

International clinical trials day - Friday 20th May
