   Our healthcare assistant Michelle Simpson has been hailed a local hero for her attempts to save a little boy's life.     She was one of a series of heroes - including police officers, staff and volunteers, and members of the public - who have gone the extra mile to keep the communities of Kirklees safe.

HRI switchboard need your help to improve service to people calling the hospital

   Our HRI switchboard receives around 500 calls per day, and in a large number of cases callers are waiting more than five minutes to get through.  This can cause people added anxiety at a time when they may already be worried.  read more

Heads-up - NHS Confederation taking photos next Tuesday at our sites

The NHS Confederation will be on site on Tuesday 29 March taking photos across our sites. The Communications Team are aware and will be with them as they do so.  read more

Our 4x4 supporters £49K triumph in People's Project

The West Yorkshire 4x4 Volunteers, who ferry doctors and nurses to work in in bad weather across the whole of Yorkshire, were awarded £49,000 in The Peoples Project which appeared on ITV.  CHFT were asked to vote for them and last week they landed a big cheque.  read more

Become a staff membership councillor and help us to shape CHFT

We shall shortly be having elections to our Membership Council.    There will be three vacancies for staff membership councillors. These will be in the nurses/midwives, allied healthcare professionals and ancillary groups. Chris Bentley, Avril Henson and Liz Farnell previously held these posts.  read more

50 next birthday and she's running her first marathon. Paula's picked a right old challenge

Our Lead colorectal /stoma care nurse Paula Pickersgill is loving her chocolates and biscuits at the moment.. and not piling on a bit of weight.     That’s because she’s running her first London Marathon next month and she's burning off all the calories in preparation. Her aim is to do it before she turns 50.  read more

Nutrition and Hydration week - the winners

Last week was Nutrition and Hydration week, and the team held a quiz and competition to win prizes.     The first prize was for anyone who managed to complete their MUST training online, and our Sister on ward 5AD, Ruth Clarkson, won the Costa Goody Bag.  read more

   We had a major food testing exercise of our existing meals and of some new potential additions to the choice for patients.     Apetito, which supplies to HRI laid on a range of mains and starters for the tester panel made up of dietitians, nurses, estates, caterers and membership councillors.  read more

CHFT at the forefront of palliative care.

Dr Jeena Ackroyd and Dr Rachel Sheils who are both consultants in Palliative medicine at CHFT recently completed a national survey looking at what interventions hospices in the UK provide for haematology patients. Their project was accepted as an oral presentation at the national Palliative Care Congress held in Glasgow in March.  read more

CRIS Upgrade - 12th April 2016

Radiology CRIS system (x-ray reports) will be unavailable for scheduled downtime on 12th April 2016, for a period of 2 ½ hours, from 8.00am.    During this time, there will be no access to CRIS whatsoever.  read more
