AMU emergency and a full-round of CQC inspection week so far

   This week’s CQC visit started in dramatic style when a patient collapsed as the inspection team passed their area.     As they entered our Star Award-winning Acute Medical Unit at CRH on Tuesday afternoon, the inspectors witnessed our colleagues delivering emergency care at first hand to react to the situation to provide best care for the patient.

Go with the Flow!

As winter pressures continue to grip us now the time to tell you of a new drive at CHFT to improve patient flow.     Every day in our Trust we have around 300 patients who have been with us for more than 10 days. Many of them should be in a different bed or in a different setting if they are to be receiving the care which is best for them and their families.

Assistant Divisional Director for Community, Karen Barnett, joined CHFT on March 1st 2016 after a long career as an Occupational Therapist.     She specialised in hand therapy, before finding an interest in Service Improvement that led to her leaving her clinical role for service improvement roles across different Trusts.

Tough outer shell - and a centre of gold. Tributes at John Ennis' farewell after 37 years

Furry slippers, vouchers and a  mounted copper ball-cock were presented to  estates legend John Ennis during his emotional farewell last week.     There was a huge turnout in the HRI Learning Centre when chums past and present turned out to bade him farewell after a career starting in 1978.

Consultation - public events dates, places and times

Our CCG colleagues have now published a timetable of public events across Calderdale and Kirklees as part of the consultation process. (see attached)     Formal consultation starts on Tuesday and runs through until June 21 to give everyone the chance to get involved.  read more

Owen's "waisted" no time in signing up for study!

   Our CEO is amongst the first to join the The Yorkshire Health Study.     The aim is to find out info from people 16 – 85 in the Yorkshire and Humber region and, using a calculator developed by The University of Sheffield, the 100,000 anticipated participants will be averaged out and then compared in the same way in 3 years.  read more

Beever's blindfolded.Fun at pharmacy fundraiser!

   Pharmacy held a great fundraising event last week to support ‘Dementia UK providing specialist nurses for families affected and raised a  £100 after it was topped up by a fiver this week!  As part of the fundraiser, the team made cakes, enjoyed tea/coffee, played Pin ‘the cherry on the cake’ and played Guess the weight   read more

Vote for our 4x4 supporters and win £50k lottery money

   The West Yorkshire 4x4 volunteers needsyour vote.     They were formed in  September 2011 by a group of 4x4 vehicle owners to help NHS staff get to work during severe bad winter snowfall. Many members of the group have been involved in helping CHFT colleagues get to work when the area has been affected by severe winter weather.  read more

Wood you believe it....Natalie's off up Snowdon

On September 17 our paediatric liaison sister Natalie Wood is heading to Wales for the Mount Snowdon challenge for Mencap.     She completed the Three Peaks last May in 8 hrs and 25 mins in May last year also for Mencap and is pictured at York railways station after completing it.  read more
