The entire Acute Medical Unit* at Calderdale Royal Hospital have scooped this month's latest Star Award.     Consultant Nick Scriven nominated them describing them as being "a complete" team including nurses, housekeepers, consultants, doctors, domestics, physios, occupational therapists, pharamacists.

You're a credit to the NHS - top praise for 8a at CRH

Ward 8 a at CRH  this week has received some terrific feedback from a hip- replacement patient who scored them 10 out of 10. He calls them "a credit to the NHS" and includes "I have never seen such an upbeat team".  Sister Linda Denham said their success was down to be a 'really, really good team'.

What to do if the CQC visit your area next week....and a reminder about staff focus groups

On Tuesday the 57-strong inspection team will begin their three and a half day visit to us.     They spend Tuesday and Wednesday at HRI and in Community, and on Thursday they're at CRH and Community.

Our Research and Development fab team and fill in their survey

CHFT patients are currently involved in over 100 research studies – and our aim is to become an even bigger participant in this field.     Our Research and Development Lead Asifa Ali told Trust Board that the more research undertaken the better outcomes we can expect for patients.

On Monday CHFT website gets a brand new look. It's been refreshed, is lively and colourful with new photos of colleagues in all roles and is mobile-friendly too.     It's simpler, easier to use for our patients, visitors, job-hunters and colleagues.  read more

Scary people.... and some Star Wars characters!!

Love you we did!! Star Wars fun on the Children's Ward at CRH

The children on the Children's Ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital had a very special visit from characters from Star Wars and Spiderman .     Anthony Theabould, who is a cosplay character, got together with others to bring smiles to the children on the ward and to hand out toys, colouring books and T-shirts.  read more


Hello my name is... Don Mackenzie

Energy sustainabiltiy and waste manager, Don Mackenzie, joined CHFT in January following a career as a Physics Teacher for 12 years as well as working with Kirklees Council.  After studying Physics at university and teacher training, Don moved to Halifax in 1990, continuing to live and work in the area since then.  read more

Monitoring fridge temperatures can help save us money...

It's important to monitor fridge temperatures every 24 hours, or it could end up with us having to destroy whole batches of medication.     There is a monitoring form to complete too. All the information you need is in Medicine Code 11.  read more

Nervecentre goes live on the Macmillan Unit - leaving only 3 more areas!

On Monday this week, Nervecentre went live on the Macmillan Unit at CRH, leaving only three more areas to go. The ‘go live’ process went very smoothly (the Nervecentre team have done over 30 now!) and very quickly staff were logged in and using the system to record the observations on their patients.  read more

Stephen Moore

Rest in peace Rev Stephen Moore

We have learnt with great sadness of the death of the Rev Stephen Moore on Friday 19th February.     Stephen was a member of the Chaplaincy team at HRI until his retirement in November 2013.     Co-ordinating Chaplain, George Spencer, said: "He will be remembered for his gentle support of patients and staff; he was a kind man and a good listener."  read more

Huddersfield Community Midwives have changed base

The Huddersfield Community Midwifery Team have moved to a new base and out of their current bases (Princess Royal Health Centre and Mill Hill Health Centre).    The new base will be for the Clinical Midwifery Manager, Huddersfield Community Midwives, Maternity Support Workers and Admin assistant, Specialist Midwives and the Aveta Home Birth Team.  read more

£170 for Brain Tumour Trust

Former colleague Leander Stones and her friends raised £170 with a TeaFest for the Brain Tumour Trust at the Black Bull, Lindley, last Friday.     Leander thanked everyone for their support at the event where there was a raffle and cup cakes.     She said: " It was lovely to see everyone.  read more
