Perfect Week - Next Steps

Thanks to all colleagues who embraced our two Perfect Weeks in December and January.  You really made it a success in terms of us finding out where the Trust can improve to ensure patients get the very best compassionate care and services we can offer. Andy helps update global resus rules

Our A&E consultant and medical education director Andy Lockey has attended a conference in Dallas, USA, to draw up international resuscitation guidelines for 2015 for adults, children and newborn babies. There he met Guy Knickerbocker, pictured left, one of the first scientists who first described closed chest cardiac massage back in 1960.

Happy 100th Olive

Nurses Lauren Cooper and Sandra Steele and all the team helped 100-year-old Olive Barron celebrate her big birthday on ward 19 at HRI. Olive’s family from Halifax and from Australia came in with cakes and balloons and Buckingham Palace had the Queen’s commemorative card delivered specially to the ward.

Diamonds are this man's best friend!

A teeny, tiny, diamond coated drill (called a coronary rotablator) which bores though very hardened arteries is now helping heart disease patients in Halifax and Huddersfield.  The first patients underwent the procedure at the start of this month and are already at home and on the road to recovery.

Coming to a TV screen near you.....

Our neurophysiotherapists Justine Laird-Boldy and Joanne Green are set to be TV stars on the hit show DIY SOS. They are caring for patient Richard Ford, from Holmfirth, who is recovering after a stroke and his home has been transformed by the local community.  read more

CHFT supporting doctors of the future

Our free, day-long event to help local 6th formers who want to become doctors with their university applications has again been a big success. Twenty students attended the session at CRH on Tuesday this week. They received advice on the highly competitive application and interview process.  read more

Marathon midwives need your support

Two of our midwives are running the London Marathon for charity.  Selma Fitton and Dawn Dutton are fitting in the training for the race on April 26, between duties on the labour ward at CRH.It’s the second marathon for them both having completed the Edinburgh Marathon last year and the final few month’s training locally is tough going.  read more

Safeguarding Sessions

March 9-13 is Safeguarding Awareness Week in Calderdale to raise awareness of both adult and children safeguarding issues. Several sessions are being staged across the patch - three at CRH and one at the Todmorden Health Centre.  They are: 

  • Mar 10 and Mar 11, 6-8 pm in the lecture theatre at CRH
  • Mar 12, 2-4 pm Todmorden Health Centre
  • Mar 13 11.30-1.

These prestigious awards seek to showcase the superb innovations that are shaping and improving nurse-led care in the NHS and independent healthcare providers.  Every year, we receive hundreds of entries that prove nurses are continuing to improve the treatment and care they provide for their patients.  read more

Wellbeing Year of 2015

2015 is Well-Being year at the Trust and we shall be seeing a whole range of new initiatives.  Starting in March there are "Take 10"sessions. Short,10-minute sessions at the Hope Centre at HRI on Mondays to Fridays offering meditation, music and chilling out sessions. They start at 12.30 pm. Workforce and Benefits service are holding an Employee Benefits Roadshow and all staff are invited to find out their employee benefits.  Come along to either CRH on Tuesday 24th of February at Ingleton Falls Café, ground floor 11am – 2pm.  Or on Wednesday 25th of February at HRI at the Spice of Life Café, Sub-basement 11am – 2pm.  read more
