World Sepsis day is on 13th September every year, so CHFT want to take the opportunity to launch our new pathways and refresh our messages about Sepsis.  Sepsis is a major reason for admission to hospital and is a major contributor to deaths in hospital both nationally and locally.

Farewell to Ward 4's Julie after 40 years

After beginning her first day of training in December 1975,(the year when a loaf of bread cost no more than 30p), Ward Manager Julie Hepworth has retired after 40 years.  After beginning her career working across many departments including Orthopaedics and Coronary Care, her last 10 years were spent on Ward 4 as both a Sister and Ward Manager.

AGM is next Thursday - all welcome

A quick reminder that our award-winning Acre Mills Outpatients Centre is the venue for our AGM next Thursday, (September 17th) from 5pm.     There will be an opportunity to have a look around the state-of-the-art building and speak to representatives from each of our divisions and find out what lies ahead in the coming year.  read more

We are just over half-way through our engagement on proposed changes to Emergency Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Assessment services.  Our proposals are to centralise the two services currently provided from the Cedarwood Unit, HRI with services provided at CRH.  read more

There's still time to train up to be a flu fighter

There's still time to become a flu fighter as training courses continue through September. Getting trained up means you'll be helping protect patients, colleagues and their familes against a nasty illness.        Two training sessions take place at CRH next week, with more happening the week after. Helen\'s determination has paid off

App's the way to do it!! Helen's get fit hints.

Helen Harris, one of our Huddersfield Nursing Team Leaders, completed the 5km Kirkwood Trail Run on the 6th of September after taking running up in March with help from the ‘Couch to 5K’ app.  Coming 11th of 49 runners, Helen completed the race in an impressive time of 31 minutes and 49 seconds.  read more

Our 'Highly Commended' David!

Our consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon David Mitchell’s book  An Introduction to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was “Highly Commended” in Specialist Surgery at the BMA Book ‘Oscars’ in London.  He was up against a staggering 637 submissions from other publishers.  read more

Email fraud/scams

Members of staff are receiving emails which contain attachments from unknown sources. Our Trust Counter Fraud Specialist, Adele Jowett, has worked with the IT Security manager who has produced a useful document which provides information and advice concerning SPAM, Phishing Emails and Social engineering.  If you are not sure of the source don’t click on links or open attachments.  read more

This week saw a big change in the Communications Office at CHFT.  Our student placement Lucy Mulcahy has left us to return to her studies on the final year of her Advertising and Marketing course at Huddersfield University. And newcomer Heidi Hawkins, on work placement from her Business Management course joins for the upcoming year.  read more

Tony Hodkinson has lost pounds to gain pounds for our SCBU.  Pals a work at car parts firm VTL drew an outline on the wall to show his weight loss and it has spurred him on to lose an incredible 44lbs (3 stones) in 23 weeks. His tactic was calorie counting and exercise.  Tony said the care on SCBU meant so much to so many people.  read more

In the run up to Theatre Action Week we have been sharing with you what we believe makes for SUPER theatres.     The U in SUPER refers to use or utilisation. During June, July and August this year there were several  times when our theatres were "fallow" ie not  being used for surgery.  read more

During the last year we have seen a lot of activity at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in the area of Human Patient Simulation, including the launch of the new Simulation Suite at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, acquision of high–fidelity patient simulators and appointment of new staff members.  read more
