(Super) Star Award for Tracey O'Keefe. "We'd be lost without her"

Tracey O'Keefe's Star Award should be renamed say her team. She's not just a Star...she's a Super Star for them as well as her patients.  She got an amazing three nominations in praise of everything she does for her District Nursing Team team at Allan House, Sowerby Bridge and for her patients.

Cancer struck our family twice last year. Why Cath Berry's backing bands for research.

   Endoscopy specialist nurse Cath Berry was at the forefront  of Cancer Research's World Cancer Day this week both in memory of her Dad and in celebration of her Mum.  Last year, Cath's Dad, John Fuller, was diagnosed with lung cancer and  sadly died and while he was poorly,  her Mum, Christine, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Another big win for Project 20:20.

Our Outpatients Tranformation team have scooped another award.  Big well done to Project 20:20 and lead Helen Gaukroger  for bringing home the trophy from the Yorkshire and Humber  Healthcare Financial  Management Association awards.   On her return we asked Helen a few questions.

Pounds for lbs. Katie scoops top prize in ED's Pudding Club.

There’s effectively one less person in the Emergency Department this month – as colleagues have lost 12 stones between them in January.  Twenty-nine of them have started a Puddling Club and are donating £10 a month with cash prizes for the biggest losers!  Staff nurse, Katie Hodgkinson was the  first winner, losing 8.

Top gear! Racing to radiology style.

Children needing vital radiology tests will be able to hop in their yellow Lamborghini to drive to them - thanks to a very generous donation from a local firm.  The car along with a cash donation of £1,000 came from  Manrochem.  read more

Coronavirus....very latest today.

There are currently two confirmed cases in England - out of more than 400 tested. The two are being treated in a Newcastle specialist isolation unit.  Our intranet homepage has a banner which takes colleagues to the infection prevention intranet page where all the latest clinical infromation is, plus a link to updates (daily at 2pm by the Dept of Health) on Coronavirus.  read more

FSS Medical Secretary Margot Hall was 'gobsmacked' when she found out she has won £1000  - and she thought it was a hoax!  She said: "I picked my phone up and didn't ever expect this call."  read more

Farewell after 85 years for Val and Anna.

 Orthopaedic Outpatients colleagues shared the double retirement of  Val Firth and Anna Lunn.  They have between them over 85 years' NHS service.  read more

Charity netball tournament Sunday March 15. Teams wanted.

Physiotherapist Catherine Gee is organising a charity netball tournament.  She would love for all professions to get involved, men and women, across all sites!  It would be a great way to integrate teams, get fit and have fun, all whilst raising money for our Trust charity.  read more
