From tragedy to top nurse - Margaret Kitching's coming to visit CHFT!

We are delighted to welcome Chief Nurse Margaret Kitching to our Nursing and Midwifery Conference next month (Friday, September 18, YMCA, Salendine Nook, 9-4.30 pm).  She'll be our keynote speaker and will be talking about her decision to go into nursing and her views on the future for the profession.

Fundraising for Peter Lau - and a big thanks to the ED team

The ED team have completed the Manchester 10k and have raised over £300. Mark Keating and Tiffany Dyson from the team at HRI have raised money for Debora Lau’s husband Pete Lau. Debora works as a trainee practitioner in ED at HRI. Her husband, Pete, had a mountain bike accident in April last year and is now paraplegic.

All targets hit in June - Big Brief 2

The Trust achieved all its key targets in June, including A&E and cancer referrals - which was an excellent all-round performance.  This was among the headline news presented at the second of the Trust's Big Brief sessions yesterday.

Ophthalmology triumph beating country's best

CHFT's ophthalmologists have won first prize, beating competition from across the UK at the Royal Society of Medicine's annual award for medical students and trainees original research.  Our team's paper, comparing two drugs used to treat the common sight problem wet macular degeneration, won the top honour.

Our Trust is trying to start up a cricket team with a possible 20-20 match this summer. And a full season next year.  If there is good response we may have a 20/20 as a challenging taster this summer. Cheryl Ann Retires on Ward 11

Flowers and gift vouchers were among the gifts presented to staff nurse Cheryl Ann Clarke upon her retirement.  Cheryl Ann was a Trust former Nurse of the Year in 1984 when she was Cheryl Beevers.  A party was held on cardio respiratory ward 11 at HRI.  read more

We've won Sexual Health contract in Calderdale

Farewell FY1s

Our FY1s are now on their way to start their FY2 posts.  Yesterday they all moved to either LGI, Harrogate, Pinderfields, BRI and Airedale. They will be completing a different set of three specialities to complete their Foundation Training by next August 2016.  read more

Accessing ESR accounts after six months

Your Electronic Staff Record (ESR) account becomes inactive if you do not log on for six months or more. We've extended the timeframe from 90 days to make sure colleagues have the opportunity to complete their mandatory training.  This means you'll need to contact The Health Informatics Service (THIS) to re-activate your account.  read more

The talented Maxillo-Facial team

No soggy bottoms here!

Move over Paul and Mary.....a cake and coffee morning on our Maxillo-Facial Unit at HRI raised £181.25 for Macmillan Cancer and £131 for Mouth Cancer Awareness Month coming up in November.  A guess the smarties on the cake helped boost the funds and colleagues enjoyed a fine range of home baking including coconut and lime cake (yummy!).  read more
