CHFT praised by national NHS boss

Chris Hopson, the chief executive of NHS Providers (which supports hospital trusts) has visited our Trust and praised the way we are "busting a gut" to face up to the current financial situation.  He was impressed with our plans to restructure for the sake of patient safety and said our work collaborating with other trusts was among the most interesting in the country.

Janet and colleagues

Big turnout for Janet Plows

There was an amazing turnout to say farewell to Janet Plows after 41 years with us.  Janet began her NHS career as a Domestic Assistant, became a Domestic Supervisor, then Assistant Head of Cleaning Services. She was made Deputy Head of Cleaning & Portering Services, then took up  her final role at the Trust as Head of Cleaning Services.

ED teams off to a flying start

Colleagues from East Lancashire NHS Trust have been to visit our Emergency Departments after an impressive start to the year.  CHFT achieved 95% performance for the four- hour Emergency Access standard in the first quarter of the year. The Emergency Departments (ED) are also delivering one of best results for ambulance 15 minute turnarounds in the region.

May and Leonard

May and Leonard Mills 69th Wedding anniversary on ward 8 HRI

Nurses and caterers at HRI pulled out all the stops to ensure a couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in style. May and Leonard celebrated their special day on ward 8 and caterers supplied a cake.  They married at the Marsden Methodist church on July 20th 1946.  They were already good friends until they decided to start courting one New Year’s Eve.  read more

Views invited on proposed changes to services

Our Trust is launching an engagement exercise on proposed changes to Emergency Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Assessment services.  The engagement is being overseen by NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG and will run from Monday 27 July until Wednesday 30 September 2015.  read more

A big well done to our FY1 trainees

The work of some of our FY1 doctors in quality improvement has been presented.  Doctors Samina Walimohamed, Tejas Ingle and Catriona Rajan  audited the antibiotic care bundle and devised tools to improve compliance with this.  read more

Congratulations Marilyn

Marilyn Rogers is a specialist midwife Infant Feeding Advisor in the Trust.  Her research investigated breastfeeding mothers’ experiences of their infant’s admission to hospital with neonatal hypernatraemic dehydration.  read more

The Families Directorate moves to Community division

The Families Directorate which was originally part of the CWF division has now become part of the newly formed Community division, to join the community adult service from July 1st 2015.  read more

Change to Fortisip Compact Protein

We currently use Fortisip Compact as our first line nutritional supplement.  However, we regularly find it is a challenge to meet the protein requirements of our client group.  read more

George Sobala, Consultant Gastroenterologist leaves our Trust after 21.5 years!

George went to Medical school in Cambridge and Oxford, trained in Gastroenterology as registrar and senior registrar for nine years in Yorkshire, in Leeds, Bradford and Hull.  He then came to Huddersfield in December 1993 as the only Gastroenterologist in the Trust at that stage.  His plans for retirement are to not have an initial plan.  read more
