Helen Barker had to be fast out of the blocks to ensure our double Star Award winners received their certificates today.  For the first time we had a tie in our monthly colleague award and our Chief Operating Officer made two presentations at CRH in half an hour.

Home on same day.... after knee replacement!

A pioneering pilot for CHFT knee replacement patients allows them to go home on the day of their surgery, using advanced digital health technology to monitor progress during their recovery.  Orthopaedic Consultant Graham Walsh told CHFT Weekly:  “This is the first day case knee replacement pathway in the UK using technology to deliver the results”.

First in the UK - well done Children's Directorate.

Our Children’s Directorate is celebrating after being the first Paediatric service in the UK to be awarded the CHKS* accreditation. Official confirmation came recently after our inspection in April, and the accreditation is good until April 2021.

Working together to provide the best stroke rehab care.

   Colleagues, former patients and The Stroke Association have come together in a trial to review and jointly redesign the way in which rehabilitation-related activity is provided in stroke units in the early days and weeks after stroke.

Cards of love on Valentine's Day

Love's been in the air all week on Ward 5 at HRI.  Engagement support worker West Calcutt has been supporting her elderly patients to produce cards for their loved ones.  Allan and Alfreda Glendenning made one for each other. The couple are both inpatients and staff arrange for them to sit side be side to have their dinner.  read more

Campaigners welcomed into HRI for talks

   Last week the Trust invited representatives from the ‘Hands Off HRI’ and ‘999 call for the NHS’ campaign groups to a meeting to discuss the next steps for the proposed reconfiguration of hospital services.  read more

First 10k run at the age of 56!

After lots of motivation and support from her daughters Louise Brooks successfully completed a 10k run and raised £311 for Andy’s Man Club, Samaritans and Mind.  Louise started running in the local park on Saturday mornings, then convinced by her daughters she started to run locally mid-week.  read more

Surgical Procedures join Day Surgery at HRI

After months of planning and hard work, our Surgical Procedures Unit at HRI has combined forces with the Day Surgery Unit.  The theatre caseload for all day surgical procedures including Opthalmology and Plastics is now all carried out in the day surgery unit.  read more

Funding bids bring £160,000 to the Medical Education Team in a year

Medical Education and their associated teams are celebrating successful recent funding bids from the Education, Research and Innovation Committee (ERIC)*, overseen by Health Education England. The equipment and training the team offer has a direct impact on patient care, so they're always excited when their bids are successful.  read more

Bite-sized learning - checking under bandages

There have been some recent incidences where patients have developed heel pressure ulcers under leg bandages, so this week a reminder of the importance of checking under bandages.  Heels are particularly at risk in patients who have lower leg oedema, possible due to the weight and size of the limb.  read more
