First of the New Year and there's a real tear-jerker of a top story.  Going the extra mile has become part of the job for our wonderful paediatric nurses who care for little Riley Merrill.  We featured them a few weeks ago when they helped him to an upgraded seat at Jess's concert in Leeds.

Farewell to our NHS70 Birthday campaign from our Chair Philip Lewer.

Our Chair Philip Lewer marks the start of 2019 by being the last in our NHS70 - campaign.  It launched in January 2018  with our then Chair Andrew Haigh and 52 colleagues later we've ended it with Philip - who joined us in May.  Comms would like to thank everyone who  has taken part.

Farewell Francesca Kenyon after 44 years.

Ward Manager Francesca Kenyon has retired from the Trust after 44 years service.  Francesca started off as a cadet nurse and was an enrolled nurse for many years, before undertaking the conversion course,and becoming  Respiratory ward manager at the Calderdale Royal for the past 17 years.  read more

Community's Monica retires after 37 years...

Monica Moore  has retired after 37 years as a District Nurse.  Monica started her nursing career at the tender age of 17, her first ward was a surgical ward at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, she then came in to the Community in 1989, where she worked at various locations throughout Kirklees and Calderdale.  read more

Jane Wilson hails our dementia care... in a very moving poem.

A nurse on ward 8 at HRI has written about dementia care and won a place in a poetry book commemorating the 70th birthday of the NHS.  Jane Wilson's words are all about the human experience behind the condition in the book called Body and Soul.  read more

How hand-painting is creating memories and helping our patients.

Creative activities such as painting can help with health and wellbeing as well as been therapeutic; it encourages the patients to express themselves in meaningful ways.  Our Engagement Support Worker, Cristina Mihu from Ward 19 has been encouraging patients to take part in creating unique art pieces using hand painting.  read more

Great news! We've achieved Silver Investors in People status

Since our last accreditation there has been an improvement in our performance, which means we have been awarded Silver status until 2021. Colleagues who use Trust letterhead are asked to use the new one which has been updated.  read more

Health and Wellbeing - first CHFT Schwartz Rounds set for 24th Jan

Schwartz* Rounds provide a structured forum where all colleagues, clinical and non-clinical, come together to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare.  The aim is to understand the challenges and rewards that are intrinsic to providing care, not to solve problems or to focus on the clinical aspects of patient care.  read more

Bite-sized learning - preventing pressure ulcers

After a recent incident, Sister Sally Roberts from ward 6 (pictured middle) and her team have been working closely with the tissue viability team to devise an action plan to improve practice.  Sally contacted the Quality Team to request a bite-sized learning on the topic, which they were pleased to do.  read more
