Fancy a cuppa? How we're helping improve hydration for our elderly patients.

Pinkies at the ready! It's all gone a bit fruity on ward 8 at HRI as we are trialling a UTI reduction programme.  The focus is on hydration, so we are offering more choices - especially herbal/fruit flavoured teas! All with the aim to encourage patients to drink more.

Ward 8D had a double retirement on its hands! Barbara Sanderson and Alison Thirlwall, semi-retired last Friday while celebrating with a farewell party. We asked them for a few words about completing 38 years each in our wonderful organisation.

Thinking inside the box. Don's call-out for cardboard to save recycling costs

The amount we're recycling is increasing - which is great news.  Now our energy officer Don Mackenzie (AKA Dump It) is on a mission to get as much clean dry cardboard recycled separately as we can. Our Trust is paid for this cardboard, plus we'll pay less in recycling costs - win, win!  read more

Bite Sized Learning - adding Next of Kin information

If a patient's Next of Kin (NOK) information isn't added for each encounter in EPR, it means we struggle to contact bereaved relatives to offer them support, at a time when they may really need it, or if there are issues on the ward. It also means we can't fulfil our Duty of Candour obligations, which is a risk to our finances.  read more

It's that time again...NHS Staff Survey.. and final call for Hot House next Friday 5th.

The 2018 National NHS Staff Survey starts next week, with all CHFT colleagues having the opportunity, alongside other trusts in the country, to have their say about working at CHFT. We've moved away from paper surveys this year, so Picker will be emailing you at some point next week with your own survey link.  read more

EPR: Important re test patients.

Colleagues are asked not to use or create "test" patients in the live EPR domain.  Test patients have real addresses, real GPs and orders placed on them fall onto real queues. There have been calls from clinical teams with test patients booked into clinics and on waiting lists.  Any correspondence created may also be sent to a real address or GP.  read more

Major Emergency Services Exercise - volunteers needed and clearing car parks in advance

On Saturday the 13th of October, the bottom part of the hospital site at HRI is going to be used for a Major Hazmat incident involving Police, Fire and Ambulance. We're looking for willing volunteers who would like to get involved, and also give advance notice of reduced car parking.  read more

Overgate Hospice Firewalk 13th October

Fancy a challenge? The Overgate's next event might light your fire! They are holding a Firewalk in aid of the hospice on Saturday 13th October. There will be training too. Read on for more info and how to get involved as you'll have to register in advance and pledge to raise money for the hospice.  read more
