What a day for NHS70! "Shared across the nation, envied across the world"!

It was party-on for the NHS's 70th across our Trust yesterday.  Our entrances, St John's Health Centre and many wards and departments in our hospitals joined in the celebrations on a truly amazing and joyous day.

Awww. Nurse Maria Hill's baby Oliver is the star of TV news in NHS 70 week

 Our lung cancer specialist nurse Maria Hill's journey to becoming a Mum was watched by thousands of viewers across Yorkshire last night - the TV highlight of NHS70 week.  Maria and husband James had baby Oliver after five years of trying and on their third IVF attempt - cared for by Martin De Bono and our amazing Yorkshire Fertility team.

Back to 1948: Liver and onions - champion.. but no pint of bitter! Also tea party roundups on

It was a huge celebration with old-fashioned 7-Tea parties the theme of the afternoon. Perfect for sharing memories over a cuppa!  To complete the scene our caterers all wore floral pinnies and there were menus featuring traditional comfort food incuding liver and onions.  We daringly asked for their feedback and here it is.

Downing Street - via Harold Wilson - for midwife Carolyn Batten

Long-serving Carolyn Batten  was lucky enough to be invited to Downing Street  yesterday to an NHS70 bash where healthcare colleagues from the across the country were the special guests. Everyone with more than 40 years service went into a draw so getting a ticket was amazing.  Carolyn said: " It was such an experience full of wnoderful NHS workers.  read more

NHS70 Video-fest: Greenlea Band and Hallelujah Choruses x2.

9.30 am. July 5. Huddersfield Royal Infirmary entrance and the band from Greenlea Unit simply burst into action.  Their renditions of Happy Birthday and Congratulations went down a storm with colleagues and visitors cheering and applause as they ended. Watch their Congratulations here.  read more

Cards, cakes and thank-you to our raffle donors

Our huge birthday cards in the main entrances were a massive hit with colleagues and patients alike - all sending their best wishes to the NHS at the ripe old age of 70. And all around CHFT cakes were baked and donated so colleagues and patients could celebrate too.  One photo below is of one of our CRH VIPs - Brian Hildred.  read more

Born on the 5th of July - special gifts for all our new babies

It was the NHS 70th but even more special for many of our local families it was their baby's first!  Big thanks to Mamas and Papas in Huddersfield who supplied lovely gift boxes for all our newborns on July 5, 2018.  Here's today's photo album. Problem solved. Have you been wondering who's the nurse in black and white on our screensavers? Well, wonder no more. All is revealed.  She has worked here for nearly 50 years, started her training in 1971 and has been with us ever since. NHS and keeping it in the family

Meet Heather and Claire - mum and daughter who work together in Cardiology at CRH.  And we know plenty more colleagues who have relatives either working in the NHS currently or in the past, like matron Karen Melling's mum Jean.  Karen and Jean set up a great memorobila stall at CRH, all of which is stored in the old Royal Halifax Infirmary.  read more
