Teddy hangs up his boots after a busy month

 Our FAST teddies - spreading awareness of the symptoms of strokes - have finally finished their global travels.  They have notched up many miles in May which was Action for Strokes month covering 150 different destinations worldwide including America, Japan, New Zealand, Dubai.... and the Lakes and Sowerby Bridge a home.

Keeping information up to date is a 'Must Do'

One of our must do’s is making sure that information’s available to our patients and our colleagues is up to date and remains confidential where appropriate.  Some of the things you can do to make a start is to review your notice boards, both staff and patient facing, and making sure the information on there if current and doesn’t have Your Care Our Concern logo on.

Michelle and Lee's Monti Carlo race

   Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rallies are events designed for those with a strong sense of excitement and adventure and are a great way of raising cash for charity. There doesn’t need to be a reason for taking part but Michelle Walshaw from CWF and her husband Lee have decided to raise money for Stroke Association and Kacie-Mai wheelchair fund.

Child Development Service team and families

Child Development Service plans on show

Our Child Development Service (CDS) colleagues hosted a drop-in engagement event on Saturday, June 6th. More than 30 children and family members attended.     Refurbishment plans for a single-site specialist centre at Calderdale Royal Hospital were on show.  Families were invited to comment on the plans, offer suggestions and ask questions.  read more

Nervecentre update

Our Trust is pressing ahead with the introduction of Nervecentre, the new technology used for patient observations and handover.  Currently Nervecentre has gone live on 7 wards (11pods) at CRH and the plan is to be fully live towards the end of July in CRH. The rollout will start at HRI at the end of July with a planned finish of mid-September.  read more

Grant Application reminder

The National Institute of Health Research (nihr.ac.uk) aims to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The Trust has some funding available for any NHS health professional (Doctor, Nurse, Pharmacist or Allied Health Professional) who has an idea about how care can be improved, the funding has been allocated from the Department of Health.  read more

Dr Sanjiv Chandratre retirement

Dr Sanjiv Chandratre, retires from the Trust after 19 years.  Dr Sanjiv who was a Consultant Geriatrician, with a special interest in Parkinson's disease was based at CRH where a small gathering was arranged on Friday 5th June so colleagues could say goodbye.     read more

Incredible edibles

Are creating edible landscapes in the grounds of Calderdale Royal Hospital.  On Wednesday, June 17th, the team form Incredible AquaGarden, along with a group of volunteers form LLoyds Bank, Halifax, will be plating edibles in four sites, within the hospital grounds.  Come down and have a look at the good work.  read more

CQC Prep

As you should be aware we are expecting a visit from the CQC inspection team at some point this year. They have already been to every other trust in West Yorkshire, so we are doing everything we can to ensure we are as ready as possible   As part of our preparations we are holding two sessions in June. Please attend if you can.  read more

Learning and Disability week 15th - 21th June

From June 15th – 19th it is national Learning Disability week 2015 which aims to ensure people who have a leaving disability will have the same opportunities as everyone else.  For the week the Trust will be holding events to promote awareness which will be led by our complex needs care coordinator and Matron Amanda Mckie.  read more

Krispy Kremes at HRI

Next Wednesday (17th) Andy Cross and Shanaz Khan are selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts (original glazed only) at HRI's main entrance from 9am.  They are raising money to purchase a Vapotherm machine for the Special Care Baby Unit at CRH.  read more

Ramadan Health Fact Sheet

Fasting in the month of Ramadan and is obligatory on all adult Muslims. Many patients and staff will be fasting or wanting to fast in Ramadan, which is expected to commence this year from 18 June 2015. It helps if NHS frontline staff is aware of, and respect this important religious obligation, and how such beliefs may affect the different elements of care.  read more
