Andrew Jackson - back and charity fundraising after two strokes

Interserve’s Andrew Jackson is celebrating his return to work after over-coming two strokes with a charity cycle ride in HRI entrance for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.  Andy, who has been at the Trust for 12 years, was unaware he had had his first stroke until he arrived at work and a colleague told him he didn’t look well. An MRI scan confirmed it.

Sarah's shortlisted for Health Professional of the Year

Sarah Topen, the specialist Macmillan dietitian in our Head and Neck Cancer team has been shortlisted for a top Health Professional of the Year award. (pictured centre)  The Head And Neck Cancer Team covers patients from both Calderdale and Huddersfield who have been diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer, and may need treatment at Bradford or Leeds.

Big thanks for a massive week.

A very big thank-you to everyone during this  exceptionally challenging week for us all.  Throughout this week we have been seeing exceptionally high levels of patient demand meaning we have been at a purple REAP – resourcing escalatory action plans - level with patient demand as high as it was during very those very busy weeks nationally  in January.  read more

This week is national Volunteers Week, and the Trust would like to thank all our supporters for their hard work, non-stop smiles and dedication helping us to care for our patients.  Carol Armitage has been a volunteer for 34 years and she started originally at Mill Hill stacking the sweet trolley.  read more

EPR is coming - quick click survey

We are working with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to introduce a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.  The system is a new way that both trusts will record and share patients’ medical information, enabling clinicians to access an up-to-date record of care wherever the patient is seen.  read more

CQC sessions this month

As you should be aware we are expecting a visit from the CQC inspection team at some point this year. They have already been to every other trust in West Yorkshire, so we are doing everything we can to ensure we are as ready as possible   As part of our preparations we are holding two sessions in June. Anne Woodhouse leaves after 42 years

Medical secretary Anne Woodhouse leaves the Trust after 42 years!  Anne who worked primarily for our consultant cardiologists over the years has waved goodbye. Her leaving presents from colleagues were flowers, bubbly and House of Fraser vouchers.  Sharon Henderson said: “Anne will definitely be missed. We wish her well in whatever she decides to do next”.     read more

Finance Our Future - be pound sound and find out more!

The Trust is launching a financial training programme designed as a clear and simple introduction to finance within the NHS. The training seeks to demystify financial language and help you understand how it works. The training is free to access for Trust staff and initially will form part of the Trust’s training package for all approvers of expenditure incurred by the Trust.  read more

E-Referral Service - transition from Choose & Book

Over the weekend of 13th and 14th June, Choose & Book will be replaced by the NHS e-Referral Service, therefore from Monday 15th June, functionality will be basically the same, but will be presented differently.  Attached is a powerpoint presentation which shows professional users how the service will look and includes new features that will enhance usability.  read more

Drugs into hospital campaign

We’re planning a Primary and Secondary care initiative mid-June to encourage patients to bring in all their medicines.  (including all medicines that have been bought over the counter as well as those that have been prescribed) and diabetes related equipment (blood sugar meter, test strips insulin, pen etc) into hospital with them should they be admitted.  read more

Mattress collection - must dos

Colleagues are reminded  that they must clean, bag and then label mattress before they ring the porters to remove them.   They must not be left outside the wards areas in corridors, not labelled and not bagged.  read more

If you need to call our specialist infection prevention and control nurses on any issue these are the names you need to know.  Jean Robinson is the  Lead Nurse, and Karen Tomlinson and Christine Bishop are the senior nurses in the team.  They should be contacted in the first instance on ALL infection prevention and control issues.  read more
