   Yesterday our Chair Andrew Haigh bade farewell to the Trust after seven years at the helm, which included memorable highlights such as an encounter with a Stormtrooper and his own wedding to Ali at HRI Chapel last June.

The rise and rise of our Physician Associates

We now have a team of 13 Physician Associates (PA) as part of our teams at CHFT -  making us the best PA recruiter in the region.  Ten are with medicine and we have three with surgery and we hope to continue the trend, since it all started back in January last year.

   Well done service performance stars Val Rigg, Mandy Taylor, Sarah Flaherty, Sophie Holroyd and Alison Aspeling.  They've walked their socks off around our hospitals for the "Walk All over Cancer" campaign throughout March.

After 37 years Paula's swapping the ward for a B&B.

There was a huge turnout for Ward 8's Paula McDonagh's fond farewell and off into retirement.  She trained in 1981 as an enrolled nurse and worked at St Luke's then converted to staff nurse and worked at HRI first on ward 6 and when it became a short stay unit and now on Ward 8 caring for our older adult patients.

Happy birthday NHS "my family", from Mansoor Ali

Consultant renal physician Mansoor Ali reckons the NHS is his second family - he spends so much time at work! He loves it and looks forward to many years to come in this, the NHS's 70th birthday.  read more

Emma Lee doing her bit... at six months pregnant.

Orthoptist Emma Lee is six months pregnant with her second child - and came up with this bloomin' good idea.  She kept her trousers from her first pregnancy but has had to re-order new unform tunic for the last few weeks of this pregnancy, and she reckons this is a waste of money.  read more

Geriator in Grosbritannien. Gudrun's film airs in Germany

Earlier this year, our Gudrun Seebass was filmed for a German TV documentary about caring for elderly patients in a hospital setting.  In the UK we have a very different model to the one in Germany, and the crew came to follow Gudrun around to show off our clinical model - with geriatricians on the wards - at its very best.  read more

Policies and work information

Appraisal Season now open!

Last year 96% of colleagues had an appraisal. Estates and Facilities topped the table at 99.73%, followed closely by Health Informatics at 99.5%. As our new Appraisal Season has started, it's time to start thinking about booking in time for this year, as all appraisals must be held by the end of June.  read more

Prescription and administration of emergency oxygen & records management policies recently approved

We keep colleagues aware of relevant policy changes through this section of CHFT Weekly. Policies should be read via the policies and documents library on the intranet - please don't save them on your own computer as they may go out-of-date and you may miss important changes or points of note.  read more

Big Brief next Tuesday 8am

Our monthly Big Brief takes place next Tuesday 10 April at 8am (Lecture Theatre both sites). Come along to hear divisional updates as well as the important performance information for our Trust, including a CQC and Wholly Owned Subsidiary update.  read more
