Our Gary Allchin, our security officer at CRH and former CHFT Star Award winner, has topped the lot by winning ISS Employee of the year - out of 45,000 people!    And big-hearted Gary hailed it a win for ALL his colleagues at CRH. He said: "It was a great honour to receive this prestigious award from ISS. It was a massive do.

Audiologist Janet Jackson retires

43 years after starting as a student audiologist in Audiology in 1974 at the Royal Halifax Infirmary, Senior Chief Audiologist Janet Jackson retired....  but was back two weeks later as a bank audiologist helping the department.

Bite sized learning - keeping confidential information safe

We’ve seen an increase in the amount of confidential information (colleague and/or patient names) being included in the wrong area of Datix – so our learning this week is aimed at improving that. Our Datix incident reporting information is seen by staff in the Trust, but the description field is uploaded to a national database, where it is visible to those in NHS Improvement.

Over the past months we have been looking at setting up a Wholly-Owned Subsidiary (WOS) here at CHFT.  A WOS is an arm's length company - owned by CHFT -  and staffed by our colleagues in estates, facilities and procurement. It will be called Calderdale and Huddersfield Solutions Ltd.  read more

Ria Green's idea to save money came in after a visit too A&E with son Owen.  She said: "On Saturday afternoon I brought my son to A&E following a foot injury. He was referred to the fracture clinic for Monday 12th March and I was provided at the time with a letter printed out by the receptionist confirming the appointment. I was perfectly happy with this approach.  read more

Our Macmillan Cancer Information Service and the Cancer Nurse Specialists from the Trust hosted a Health and Wellbeing event at the Johns Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield.   The event was opened by our lead cancer nurse Christopher Button.  read more

CHFT Sim training hits new heights.

We ran our very first ASCME "Acute Simulated Core Medical Emergencies” course at CHFT on Monday. And it was such a success we'll be running more in future.  This is a Health Educated England accredited and funded course for regional trainees, normally run in the teaching hospitals Leeds and Bradford.  read more

Librarian Helen Curtis was a willing participant for the NHS 70 birthday celebrations as our amazing organisation saved her life. During childbirth she suffered a bleed and she reckons she wouldn't be here without all the care she needed at that crucial time. Proposed changes to pay and pay structures announced

Yesterday the NHS Staff Council formally signed off its agreement for the reform of the NHS pay structure and terms and conditions for colleagues employed under Agenda for Change arrangements. This will affect all staff, excluding doctors and dentists.  read more

Improved SNOMED catalogue in EPR - don't forget your favourites folders

The 2017 SNOMED catalogue has been uploaded into EPR. The catalogue is the national list of terms used in problems and diagnosis and for some historical procedures and has been updated to include some missing ones and some older terms removed.   read more

Raising awareness of TB

Meet the Calderdale TB Team   We are the TB Team, based at Brighouse Health Centre.  Our team consist of a Respiratory Consultant (Dr Scriven) a TB Specialist Practitioner (Mary Hardcastle) and a TB Specialist Nurse (Dale Richardson)  Each year, on 24 March, the world marks World TB Day.  read more

Eye Clinic coffee morning next week

Next Thursday 29th, the Eye Clinic at CRH are holding a coffee morning and raffle to help raise funds to improve facilities in the clinic. They'll start at 10am and carry on until they run out of cake!  Lots of homemade delicious cakes on offer and a raffle. Purdah dates for 2018.

Local elections will be taking place in our areas on 3 May.   NHSI has produced the attached guidance with NHS England to help local NHS organisations understand the implications of the pre-election period known as purdah.The latest date purdah can start in March 27 2018.    read more

Judicial review set for June

The Judicial Review (JR) into our Full Business Case will be heard in Leeds in June. Three dates June 12,13 and 14 have been set aside for the hearing.  A judge at the High Court last week ruled it should go to JR.  read more
