Not many people would rate their time in theatres as "lovely" but matron Karen Melling said just that after her stay earlier this month at a time when we're facing unprecedented challenges. It's a cracking read written by someone who spends her weeks delivering compassionate care.  We wish Karen a speedy recovery and return to work.

Hello my name is… Manohar Kini, our new Stroke Physician.  He did his CCT training in stroke medicine at Sheffield and was in a substantive stroke consultant post at Doncaster for more than five years before moving to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS FT last year for family reasons.

Sal Uka selected for NHS leaders' fast track scheme

Our paediatrician Sal Uka is joining a new NHS fast track scheme to turn clinicians into NHS leaders of the future.  He has been selected after a rigorous process to join the new Clinical Executive Fast Track scheme. All the successful candidates have been hailed for their "enthusiasm, passion and commitment".

CHFT designated 'flu wards set up

   Flu numbers are on the rise and in response we now have  two dedicated 'flu wards at CHFT. They are Ward 6 at HRI and Ward 4d at CRH.  We're doing all we can to restrict the spread  and you can do your bit too by having your vaccination if you still need it - it's never too late.  read more

This is a picture of the children’s play are in orthopaedic outpatients at HRI.      Orthopaedic outpatients cares for children on fracture clinics throughout the week and also hosts a specialist children’s orthopaedic clinic on Fridays with a visiting consultant Ms Deriu from LGI.  read more

Home Secretary pledges security for EU citizens working in the NHS

Our new intranet goes live on Wednesday January 24.

Our fab intranet editors are working flat out to get their content ready for the switchover. So when you open your computer on the 24th  there'll be a brand new homepage as well as a new policies and documents library. This is the first revamp we've had for more than 10 years and we have built it based on feedback from colleagues.  read more

Bite sized learning - the accuracy of patient information leaflets

It is important to make sure our patient leaflets are accurate.  A recent complaint highlighted we hadn't explained travel restrictions in the leaflet properly which caused problem for a patient..  We're asking leaflet owners to review their leaflets to make sure as much information has been included as possible. Big Brief slides available

Each month after Big Brief we make the slides available for managers to share at team briefings. January's slides are now available. They include an important message about our finances, a CQC update (our inspection is due soon), and a change to payslips after January. The divisions also have news on services and staffing changes.       read more

The Immunisation Team have moved from St Johns Health Centre and are now based at Brighouse Health Centre, Lawson Road. The new phone number is 01484 728956.  The TB team are also now at Brighouse Health Centre at Lawson Road.  Their telephone number is 01484 712515 (ext 8939).  read more

Walk on, Walk on.... to celebrate the NHS's 70th birthday

   A new  challenge has been set as part of the NHS70 celebrations asking staff to donate 1000 miles!    A new challenge has been issued by a children's nurse Kath Evans.  Kath, a children’s nurse who leads on improving experiences of care at NHS England, has come up with #NHS1000miles to coincide with the 70th birthday of the NHS.  read more
