We're in "unprecedented" times...: A very big thank-you

With the NHS creaking under winter pressures like never before, a massive thank-you has gone out to all CHFT staff.  It’s been hailed an “unprecedented”  time of challenge for all Trusts - so critical that Trusts have been advised to delay non-urgent operations and non-urgent outpatients from the Department of Health.

Matron Karen Melling's little white lie did the trick and moments later our hugely popular matron Jan Carter was at the centre of her surprise retirement do.  As soon as she appeared in Surgical offices at HRI to a resounding Three Cheers, Jan burst into tears and triggered them off right around the room.

Linda Parchment retires - 37 years to the day she joined our Trust

Even delays on the bypass couldn't stop the teams from outpatients sending Linda off with a bang. And with Huddersfield Town coloured balloons to doggy shampoo as part of her leaving gifts, Linda was given a fab farewell by the team.  Matron, Rachel Roberts, told colleagues: "I've managed Linda for two and a half years and it's been a total pleasure .

Happy 100th Cyril from all on Ward 15.

HRI's Ward 15 rallied round to help patient  Cyril Haldenby, from Halifax, celebrate his 100th in style and with his family.  They laid on a cake and invited in all his family for the event.  Cyril was born and grew up in Cleckheaton and served in the war as a despatch rider.  read more

Team's hampers for those alone at Christmas and big thanks to HRI gritters last Friday morning.

The Upper Valley Reablement Team and Therapists took the opportunity over the Christmas period to work together to make up Christmas hampers filled with a variety of different festive treats and gifts for individuals in the service who unfortunately were spending the Christmas period alone.  read more

Community Division inaugural celebration event

Our Community Division staged it's own thank you celebration for their staff last month.  The event  - the first one - was aimed to bring everyone together and share all the good work that happened throughout the year. It was an opportunity for lots of laughter and thank-yous.  read more

Testing our response if a terror attack happens in Yorkshire

Our Trust took part in a Yorkshire-wide table-top exercise to test our responses should there be a major terror alert in our region.  The exercise centred on  two  specially created  fake incidents in Sheffield and Doncaster which  involved multiple casualties including children.  CHFT created a "command" centre in our appointments centre at HRI.  read more

Big Brief next Tuesday 8am - CANCELLED

UPDATE - MONDAY 8 JAN - Due to winter pressures the Big Brief has been cancelled for January. The slides will still be available to share on with teams.  ___________________________________________________________________________________________________  The first Big Brief of 2018 takes place next Tuesday 9 January in the Lecture Theatre at both sites.  read more

Clarification on A629 roadworks near CRH

The latest stage of the road widening has started and will take 4-6 weeks. Throughout this time there will be a one-way diversion on Dryclough Lane. Cars cannot access the A629 via Dryclough Lane - they can only get access to the hospital. There is a diversion in place which takes cars around the back of the hospital.  read more
