Our new Trust logo - Compassionate Care

Our vision for the Trust is Together we will deliver outstanding compassionate care to the communities we serve  Last year we carried out work with patients, visitors and staff and asked them what words they associated with the Trust. And I am pleased to say that ‘compassion’ and ‘care’ came out top.

Top billing for our gardener David Hambleton

 David Hambleton - our gardener at HRI -  is swapping petunias for (organ) pedals as he is guest of honour at the recommissioning of a former Huddersfield church organ in Switzerland.  The organ was built locally by Peter Conacher,  Springwood in 1895 and was played at Ingbirchworth Methodist Church until the chapel closed a few years ago.

Acre Mills best of the best!!

Our new outpatients’ centre has won a top award from RICS Pro Yorkshire Building Conservation awards.  Acre Mills was the Winner of the Conservation Project of the Year.  The former wire mill which has undergone an amazing transformation into a 21st century healthcare facility topped the category and Channel 4 property guru Phil Spencer presented it.

Wedding on Ward 1

Emotions ran high on ward 1 at HRI as a couple in their seventies tied the knot.  Brian Lockwood and Sandra Anderson, from Shepley, exchanged their vows watched by family, friends, ward and catering staff.  Brian, who is a cancer patient, proposed last week to Sandra after being together for fifteen years.

International Clinical Trials day

   May 20 was International Clinical Trials Day and was promoting the message of #WhyWeDoReseach across the Trust.  Both sites entrances had stands with members of staff to offer any information and guidance to patients, visitors and staff about what Clinical Trials do for the public and for the Trust.  read more

Dying Matters week

This week is Dying Matters week and our staff have been manning the entrances to offer  advice to patients, visitors and staff.  They have been promoting the message of ‘Talk, Plan, and Live’ to raise awareness and trying to make death not a taboo subject.  The stands were in the entrances of HRI on 19th of May at HRI and 21st of May at CRH.  read more

Spiritual care training at Huddersfield University

Three members from our Trust’s Chaplaincy attended the University of Huddersfield and participated in the celebration of Nurses day. They gave a presentation together on “Spiritual Care” to nursing students. The presentation was done by Rev George Spencer, Rev Martin Parrott and M Imran Hussain.  read more

Trust staff have access to 700 electronic books published by Oxford Medical Books until the end of June you just need an Athens account to access please contact the library for more information.  read more

Raising Concerns: Video on speaking up about patient safety

This short video (11 minutes) produced by Health Education England, seeks to support healthcare professionals to raise and respond to concerns about patient safety.  The video is the latest addition to the wide range of information on raising concerns available on the Whistleblowing page of the Trust’s intranet.  All Trust staff are encouraged to view the video.  read more

Wendy Waves goodbye

Orthopaedic outpatients are saying goodbye to Wendy White  She has been with our Trust for 34 years – and a total 27 years in the orthopeadic department at HRI.  Wendy plans to be lady of leisure in retirement.  She  said: “The team spirit we had on the department with patients and colleagues is what I will miss most”.  Photos to come later today.  read more
