Countdown to Care Contact Time - Nursing update from Deputy Director of Nursing Jackie Murphy

Countdown to “Care Contact Time”.  On the 4th of June each ward area will be required to undertake a contact time study for 12 hours which will include each member of the ward team. The Care Contact Time study is intended to identify the percentage of time that is spent by nurses on delivering direct and indirect patient care.

Summit to cheer about

Twenty doctors, orthoptists, nurses and admin staff from our eye-care team have taken part in a hike up Snowden last Saturday (9th May) to raise money for specialist equipment which will screen children to see if they need to wear glasses.  The team have now raised roughly £2,000 to go towards a plusopix, auto-refractor which is an easy screening gadget.

Farewell to Mel and Tania!

Both Mel and Tania left the Trust on Friday 8th of May to join the Improvement Academy at the Yorkshire and Humber. Mel had worked for the Trust for 16 years starting on the Stroke rehab ward, then to Risk Manager. Her final role for the Trust was the General Manager for the Governance team.

Awareness Afternoon for Stroke month

With over 50 attendees the afternoon was a hit! With Trust colleagues helping organise the event and offer extra advice and support.     The Holme Valley Stroke Group was started last year by Ruth Thomas who is CHFT’s Stroke and clinical lead Occupational therapist with Caroline Pollard who is a staff nurse with Stephen Haywood, a Stroke victim.

Opportunity to apply for funding to write grant applications

The National Institute of Health Research ( aims to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The Trust has some funding available for any NHS health professional (Doctor, Nurse, Pharmacist or Allied Health Professional) who has an idea about how care can be improved, the funding has been allocated from the Department of Health.  read more

Good luck Acre Mills

Good luck to Acre Mills tomorrow night at the property ‘Oscars’. Our new outpatient’s centre, which was created in the shell of a former wire mill, was shortlisted by the prestigious Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Channel 4 property guru Phil Spencer is hosting the awards. We have been nominated for Project of the Year, and the Conservation Project of the Year.  read more

YAS training in the Sim Suite

Our Trust hosted a clinical trial for Yorkshire Ambulance Service colleagues in the Simulation Suite at HRI, on Wednesday May 13th.  The training opportunity was in response to a regional request  The Yorkshire Ambulance Service is participating in ARIWAYS-2, which is a clinical trial to determine the best method of airway management in pre-hospital cardiac arrest.  read more

Supply of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen on discharge

Where a patient has a supply of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen at home they will no longer be supplied on discharge.  Supply of over labelled TTO packs of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen will cease and original GSL packs are to be supplied.  A flowchart has been produced and attahced to explain the new procedure for short term and long term use.  read more

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), a service run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is hosting a series of seminars to help people manage their stress and low mood.  The seminars are held in convenient locations throughout the day and evening, and are free to anyone aged over 18 registered with a Kirklees GP.  read more

Clinical Trials day - 20th May

Our Trust will once again be celebrating International Clinical Trials Day on Wednesday 20th of May.  There will be interactive stands in the Foyer at HRI & CRH, do come along and visit and meet the research teams.  All patients and visitors are welcome, so please encourage them to pop along on the 20th to find out more about clinical research in the Trust  read more
