Hello my name is Gary Miles - one of the latest cohort of new nurses going through induction this week

It's been our pleasure to host the latest nurse induction week here at CHFT!  Our recruits are all pictured in the centre of our montage.  Over the last year we have recruited 193 qualified nurses to CHFT and this is the latest of our inductions for them. They have been deployed to inpatient ward areas and departments across the clinical divisions.

Guinea fowl, gongs and the jaw-dropping cost of two G&Ts. All the action from the Nursing Times awards 2017

   Our Trust had an amazing three separate entries at this year's Nursing Times 2017 awards - the most representation of any Trust in the country.  Our Lung Cancer team, our HOOP team and the Continence Team shared a table at the event at the Grosvenor Hotel, London last Thursday and just missed out on a top gong.

As a contribution to the Trust’s End of Life Care Strategy, seven End of Life Companions have now finished their training and are preparing to start on certain wards.  Here our chaplain George Spencer explains this amazing, new role as we strive to provide the very best compassionate care.

From our wards to weddings! Angela Bradshaw is guest speaker at our Quality Improvement Workshop

Angela Bradshaw was welcomed back by colleagues to be the lead speaker at our Quality Improvement workshop at Briar Court Hotel - attended by 33 colleagues.  The  workshop was the idea of Carole Hallam and Maggie Shepley - winners of the Gordon McLean Award at last year's Celebrating Success awards.

Brendan joins the immunisers and Sunday is the deadline to go into prize draw

Our Chief nurse Brendan Brown’s been doing his bit for the ‘flu campaign with a visit to A&E and Orthopaedic outpatients at CRH today.  More than half our frontline staff have now been vaccinated and all will go into our prize draw next week and a chance of winning the £100 shopping vouchers top prize.  read more

New Rapid Assessment Centre at HRI opens

We have opened a new unit to care for patients arriving via ambulance into our A&E department  at HRI.  The room - a Rapid Assessment Unit - has been created in the former plaster room in the ED. Around 25% of our patients arrive by ambulance and the room gives us an opportunity to provide them with an assessment on arrival.  read more

Ted Baker at CHFT - Just don't ask him to make you a suit!

Last Friday  we welcomed Professor Ted Baker, the CQC’s Chief Inspector of Hospitals.  Ted became Chief Inspector of Hospitals in August 2017. He joined CQC in 2014 as Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals after working in clinical practice for 35 years.  read more

Nutilis thickening agent change on adult wards - end November

Our adult wards will be switching from ‘Nutilis’ to ‘Nutilis Clear’ as our thickening agent. Nutilis will be visiting all affected wards in the next fortnight to inform colleagues about the product and how to use it, with the aim of switching the products over on 30th November.  There is a poster attached.  read more

Healthier choices at The Spice of Life

The Spice of Life restaurant is relaunching a fab new and healthier menu starting on Wednesday.    They will be offering a 'Healthier choice' every day. On a new loyalty card scheme if you buy 9 you get the 10th meal free to promote healthy eating.  read more

And....Bake! Macmillan Coffee Morning November 17

 A week tomorrow -  Friday November 17th -  the Macmillian unit at CRH is hosting a Coffee Morning to raise funds for our unit from 10am till 2pm.   If you can't make it but would still like to contribute you can still either donate cakes or prizes for tombola.  read more

Oak Leaf Service at Halifax Minster

The annual Oak Leaf Service for Road Peace Week – remembering those affected by Road Traffic Collisions  - will be held in The Minster on Sunday 19th November at 4pm followed by refreshments.  The Speaker this year will be Assistant Chief Constable Angela Williams.  read more

Bradford Vascular Educational day

Bradford Teaching Hospitals are offering a Vascular educational day for healthcare professionals to help and improve their knowledge of vascular surgery.  They are inviting anyone from CHFT who is interested in anything vascular.  The day will give an insight into vascular disease and intervention and will be delivered from both a medical and nursing approach.  read more
