Hat-trick of Hurrahs! Three through to Nursing Times shortlist

We have an amazing three teams shortlisted for the the Nursing Times  finals for  2017.  They are:  Hospital Out Of Hours (HOOP) - Team of the Year category.  The HOOP team was set up to assist our teams on wards provide more effective care during the nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Big thanks to everyone on  HRI's Ward 20 and in pharmacy for making Perfect Medicines Week a success. (July 17-23)  We were able to take away several points of learning - a chief one being not to interrupt when a colleague in a red tabard is doing the drugs round on the ward.

39 years a nurse and now the world and Hudds Town are Mandy Mellor's oyster!

Back in the day when nurses had paper hats and silver buckles, Mandy started training as a nurse in 1978 at the Northern General in Sheffield.  Once Mandy Mellor qualified she started working on the male surgical ward in Sheffield and was living in shared nursing housing which was a blast (more like party central!!).

Full Business Case (FBC) approved this morning

   CHFT’s  Board of Directors at their monthly meeting this morning unanimously approved the Full Business Case (FBC) and its submission to NHS Improvement (NHSI) and our two CCGs for further approvals.  The next steps in the process will be taken by the boards of the CCGs.  read more

Muddy Medics after the mud bath

We lost our shoes in the mud but never our spirits! Medics on top form

Our medics smashed a £1400 and more by surviving a real mud bath of a challenge!  They’ve told CHFT Weekly some huge bruises were acquired but in places we can’t possibly publish…!  Their efforts were inspired by last year’s attempt (which 4 of them was crazy enough to do it again) – Sal Uka, Cath Rourke, Rosey Lwyn and Ian Melling).  read more

Bite-sized learning.This week: The importance of checking the dosage of medicines

Our learning this week comes from when a patient was prescribed and took a sedative that was higher than the recommended dose. The patient became unresponsive and needed to stay on our CDU overnight for observations.  The attached bite-sized learning should be shared within teams.  read more

Colleagues from across the trust joined CEO Owen, volunteers and the Chief Executive of Calderdale and Kirklees Age Concern to formally open our new discharge lounge - run by Age UK in partnership with CHFT.  read more

Balancing research with responsibilities to patients can be a difficult task for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and clinical academics.  The NIHR Clinical Research Network: Yorkshire and Humber supports researchers in different roles to deliver research.  One such role is that of Principal Investigator.  read more

New plaque in memory of Jayne Garforth at Macmillan Centre

Our Macmillan centre at CRH has a new plaque in memory of Jayne Garforth.  It is a full biography about our former nurse who died from breast cancer in 1997 and coincides with the opening of our newly refubished inf centre.  read more

Diabetes Roadshow

Our two stands attracted a lot of interest in raising awareness about diabetes in all our communities.  Our Inpatient diabetes Speclialist Nurse - Mahen Jamookeeah said "It was very successful day for both staff patient and visitors who attended the stall. Some visitors vere surprised with the display of the amount of sugar in the fizzy drinks.  read more

Mencap Charity ball event - buy your tickets now!!

Mencap in Kirklees is a learning disability charity that was formed in 1946 to support local people with learning disabilities. Over the years we have grown and now work with adults in the Kirklees area across a range of services.  We deliver care in the community, residential homes and day services. We deliver a successful employment training scheme and a number of social groups.  read more
