Farewell Friday - Health Visitors: Thank you and sorry!

Commemorative, framed certificates were presented to everyone at a  special party for our Health Visitors.  They are transferring to Locala six years after joining CHFT from the then Calderdale Primary Care Trust when community care was reshaped.

Farewell Friday - Wendy Smith waves bye bye to ward 19

 After 30 years in the NHS (20 on our orthopaedic ward) Wendy Smith is bowing out.  She started as a domestic at Storthes Hall and worked at Mill Hill and Urology Ward at HRI when it was Ward 11. She was also a hairdresser.  Colleagues and friends laid on a buffet and presentation on Ward 19.

Farewell Friday - Massive turnout for Julie Walker.

Fantastic turnout in cleaning services for Julie Walker who leaves the NHS after 38 years, 15 years at HRI  Colleagues crammed into Corridor 7 with cakes and present to wish Julie a fond farewell.  Julie said “From the moment I started working here I have felt like part of the team, cleaning services is my life.

Farewell Friday - Mary Topa's off after 48 years!

Mary Topa got a terrific double send off last Friday after 48 years ("bar a couple of months") with us. Colleagues threw a farewell party at work and they all headed out for the night as an extra celebration.

Patient Safety Awards - Surgery grab top accolade

Well done to our emergency surgeons -  winners at the Patient Safety Awards 2017!  On Tuesday night they attended the prestigious finals in Manchester - their second finals in two months.  read more

Our appraisals season in full flow - it's YOUR hour so don't waste it!

Our Appraisal Season has started. Everyone at CHFT will have the opportunity to meet and discuss their achievements over the past year, as well as focus on areas they’d like to develop, before the end of this October.     Appraisals are a great opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months, look ahead and find what you need to help you develop in your role.  read more

Bite sized learning - Sharing Learning, Improving Care

This week's learning focuses on the correct storage and use of medical gas equipment. We're sharing this as it's been the subject of a recent NHS England Patient Safety alert, so it's important that our equipment is used and stored correctly. Please share onward with your teams.  read more

Our HSMR hits new low!

Our HSMR (hospital standardised mortality ratio)  is the best it has been for years.  After a tremendous amount of work it stands at 100 which is a reflection of all hard work around improving the care of the acutely-ill patient.  read more

Children's Services: Aiming to be first accredited

Chief Nurse, Brendan Brown, our Board Director who is the Lead for children, has invited CHKS assurance and accreditation programme to support CHFT to be the first trust in the UK to have their services for children accredited.  Julie Mellor and Gill Harries will be the project leads.  read more

Our stand's a hit for Macular Week

Our fantastic CRH ophthalmology team has been raising awareness for Macular Week and they have made it into The Macular Society website (see link in article)     Jeanette Hainsworth (left in the picture) Heather Robinson (right) and Tracy Craven (not pictured) have produced the display with the help of the society.  read more

Feedback on TRAC-k for new recruitment system...drop-in dates for support

Awareness drop-in sessions are planned this month for anyone needing support in using the new recruitment system Trac, with positive feedback from colleagues already using it. The paper based Vacancy Control Forms (VCF) are no longer be accepted and vacancy requests need to be requested through Trac.  read more

Yellow Sock Day and Pimp My Zimmer - fun activities next week to highlight the importance of falls awareness

Colleagues are being encouraged to wear yellow socks, shoes - like Dr Andy Hardy - or a splash of yellow, next Wednesday 12 July as we promote falls awareness here at CHFT. The engagement support workers are also spending time each day next week "pimping zimmers" - proving Falls Prevention really does get Attention.  read more

Men's 5 aside tournament is back - 19 July - get your boots scrubbed up and join us

Fancy having a go at being the next Ronaldo this summer? Feel like showing off your fancy footwork? If you can get a team of 5 colleagues together then why not get involved in our annual 5-a-side tournament? Held to promote Men’s Health Week, it’s a great way of blowing off steam and building team morale.  read more

Birkenshaw/Illingworth Fire Station open days

Two of our local fire stations are holding open days over the next couple of weeks. Supported through our Active Calderdale Partnership, Illingworth Fire Station is also holding two multi-terrain fun runs of 5k and 10k for those who are really feeling sporty!     Both shows will be raising money for various charities.  Please see attached - and enjoy!     read more
