This week we want to focus on medicines fridges. Our medicines need to be stored correctly and at the right temperature to make sure they don't become ineffective. If we don't do the right checks it could mean they aren't effective and patients have to stay with us for longer than they need to, or may need extra treatment. read more

Community HCA Elaine Taylor hung up her car keys this week, as she retired from her role supporting wound care throughout Brigg Royd and Calderdale at CHFT, saying "I'm going to miss my patients so much". Elaine worked two days and two nights each week. read more

Physio Pete Gilligan wore his uniform to mark Armed Force Reservist Day. Pete, who joined us two years ago, is with the 207 Field Hospital based in Manchester part of 2 Medical Brigade. As a reservist he must spend 27 days a year in training but has yet to be deployed. read more

Flush taps to keep Legionella at bay.
Our consultant in Microbiology, Gavin Boyd, wants to remind colleagues of the importance of regularly flushing taps throughout the Trust to help reduce the risks of legionella. Gavin said: "Legionella can live in water systems, particularly in large buildings with extensive pipework, such as our hospitals. read more
Gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge completed by ward 5
Our HRI Ward 5 colleagues raised £600 after completing the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. Gail Flynn, Amy Lubgan , Rebecca Welch and Penny Halliwell set out to raise money for new televisions on wheels. Senior Nurse Rebecca Welch said: “We walked 26 miles in over 13 hours. read more

From this Saturday - 1 July - all colleagues will be able to access the online version of the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures.
