Our Director of Operations for Community Karen Barnett has completed two huge challenges to raise money for various charities.
On 13th May she walked the 26.2miles London Marathon route as part of the London Moonwalk challenge. This was a large event supporting an organisation “Walk the Walk” which is a grant making charity uniting against breast cancer.
She said: " I did it alongside my sister Rachel who herself has recovered from breast cancer. So this was a very personal challenge for us both. We set off at quarter to midnight and finished at 9am. We were absolutely shattered but really ecstatic that we had completed what we set out to do and we were both still smiling."
Two weeks later completed a second challenge for cancer charities - Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jos Cervical Cancer Trust. This involved a 105km cycle ride, again overnight, again in London.
She was with her friend good friend Sam. The ride started in Windsor racecourse, went up to London, past the London Eye and Westminster, up The Mall and then back to Windsor via Hampton Court Palace. This time she completed the challenge in six hours so finishing just as the sun was rising at 4am.
Karen adds: " All-in-all May was very productive. I raised over £650, got fitter, found a new hobby (cycling) and achieved two things that I never thought I would do!"
