New care pathway for Urology Patients - pilot scheme launches Monday

From Monday, December 19, our patients with urology conditions of haematuria and acute retention of urine will be cared for on a new ambulatory unit.

Previously they were admitted onto ward 22 at HRI after presenting at A&E or by GP referral.

The new unit – based on the Surgical Assessment Unit at HRI –  will deliver quicker, specialist care so our patients can be assessed, diagnosed and treated  and return home more quickly.

The measure is being launched as a pilot in the short term to assess how the new approach can deliver better care for our patients.
