Staff nurse Wendy Schofield is our next Star Award winner for her "outstanding" care for a dying man during her night shift on 8c.     His family wrote into the ward with praise for the whole team but singled out Wendy for providing outstanding care when their father passed away.

Having that flu jab now could save you a whole lot of 'yuck' when you need to be at your peak for the turkey, pudding and eggnog! It can take two weeks for your body to create flu busting antibodies - just about the time most of us trim up.

Theatres audit day draws huge turnout - with other departments getting involved

Theatre colleagues at CRH recently got together to complete some mandatory training and manual handling.     Colleagues were also invited from Admissions Unit, Day Procedure Unit and Pain services to maximise the day and in all 35 people were there, one of the biggest ever turnouts for an audit.  read more

Recycling now in place at both hospitals...so please do your bit to support it

Did you know most of our domestic waste is burnt to get energy from waste at the moment? This makes recycling (which we're all use to at home) a much better option.     Both hospital sites now have lots more facilities like recycling bins and each has it's own on site waste compactor skip.  read more

In October following listening to feedback from all areas across the Trust, the Board took the decision to move from our existing e-Roster system to a new system called Healthroster owed by a company called 'Allocate'.  read more

Reminder: Breakthrough event next week on long working hours and flexible working patterns

The results of last year’s NHS Staff Survey told us our Trust is not as good at offering flexible working patterns as other similar trusts. We also know that many colleagues regularly work far longer hours than they should. This impacts on wellbeing, and may also affect patients and other areas of colleagues’ lives.  read more

Tea and trees to promote staff well-being at Calderdale Royal Hospital

We're making excellent progress to making the most of our outdoor spaces at CRH for staff and patient benefit.     There is development of a staff well-being Forest Garden opposite the Diabetes Department as well as also developing one of the indoor courtyards for Stroke Rehabilitation and The Dales garden for mental health recovery.  read more
