Roundabout rescue wins Emily our Star Award

Ward 19's Emily Pawson is our latest Star Award winner after a dramatic early morning incident at Ainley Top when she spotted a teenager in distress.  The girl was injured and when Emily spotted her driving home from her night shift she wanted to stop..... but couldn't.

I felt like a kid for three hours! Great stuff!

They've had time to recover - though Sam Ingram still has issues of when a man's leopard print leggings distengrated and he had nothing on underneath! Especially on the monkey bars! Perish the thought...  On 23rd June at Bramham Park in Leeds a number of CHFT colleages participated in Total Warrior.

Star Award winner Ruth Walker tells consultants what to do. Oh yes she does.

Staff nurse Ruth Walker was recently surprised by Chief Exec Owen with a Star Award. And as soon as she saw him she was shaking with nerves.  Owen said " You've been described as the stalwart of ENT by Catherine Hawkes. All your hard work has been noted, especially during the CQC inspection and the support you give to the consultants in the department.

What a day for NHS70! "Shared across the nation, envied across the world"!

It was party-on for the NHS's 70th across our Trust yesterday.  Our entrances, St John's Health Centre and many wards and departments in our hospitals joined in the celebrations on a truly amazing and joyous day.

Bumper Birthday cards, bunting and a Bishop... but will Jammal's lobelias flower in time?

Thursday is NHS70 and we've a fab day and build-up to it planned in our hospitals and in our community settings.  Monday is the start of the week's celebrations and we've selfie frames from Monday onwards to pass around so colleagues get in the mood from the start of this momentous week.  There's road banners and roadside banners going up too.

Moment to CQC- elebrate!

What a summer it's been. Non-stop sunshine, the World Cup off to a flyer and topped off with yesterday's  "GOOD" news from the CQC .  There were celebrations across the Trust and Comms cameras captured some of them -  and produced a special video featuring Owen and Lindsay.

Meet our World Cup managers - Sharon Berry, Beth Ashworth, and Amy Toomes!

Sharon Berry's got HRI theatres right behind "their" team Uruguay for the CHFT World Cup.  Beth Ashworth has Ward 20 all decked out and backing Colombia, and on Ward 5 sister Amy Toomes is rallying the team behind Switzerland. See the photo.

Awwww. This little lass grew up to be one of our longest serving nurses who's still with us now.  She answered the call when we asked for your memories as part of our NHS70 celebrations... and if they go back to black and white days all the better.

Lovely Lisa Gray's a real Star! - and today's the last day for May nominations - see below to enter!

Rehab assistant Lisa Gray's care for a lady with dementia and no relatives over the Christmas period has won her the latest Star Award.   Her team - the Elective Orthopaedic Rehabilitation team -  generally have fewer elective patients to see over the Christmas period so they added their support to in-patient therapy team on other wards.

Ward 3 Charge nurse Alex Henderson’s NHS links stretch back for the full 70 years….. and way beyond.  He agreed to join our campaign to celebrate the NHS's 70th birthday (on July 5)  and in the course of talking to CHFT Weekly revealed his family’s amazing links to the NHS, from its very early days and even before.
